This project was probably a highlight for Richards. Naugatuck Valley Mall was a 1,000,000 sf shopping mall built in the 1960’s and was actually the first type of shopping complex in the country. Richards was called upon to redevelop the site to make room for a 600,000 sf strip style shopping center.
The project was a fast track and had to be opened in 8 months. This schedule required continuous work throughout the winter. The project included the demolition of the existing mall and the underground sub-structure including all old utilities. Richards installed1000 lf of 14’ x 8’ precast box culvert about 35,000 lf of new utilities, 20,000 ton of new pavement, 30,000 lf of concrete curbing, landscaping and preparation of all new building footprints.
Currently the shopping center is made up of a Stop & Shop grocery store, a Walmart, Bobs Store, Linens and Thing, Pub 99, Wendy’s, and about a dozen other smaller stores. |
